Petrified National Forest & Painted Desert
On the last leg of our journey from California, we headed to the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona where you can see shimmering petrified wood throughout the park. There is a wealth of educational information available in the park telling how the petrified wood formed slowly over millions of years within the sediment forming a rainbow of vibrant crystalized colors. However, I believe the evidence points to our wondrous Creator and the flood recorded in Genesis 6-9.
The Blue Mesa area of the park reminds me of the Badlands in South Dakota with the hills striped with blue, lavender, pink, tan, and gray hues. Throughout this area, you continue to see the petrified wood scattered throughout. The hike into the Blue Mesa area was easy….with a moderate climb back up to the top, but well worth it! When driving to the Painted Desert be sure to stop and see the old Studebaker with the old roadbed of the original Route 66. Notice the line of old telephone poles in the background.
The Painted Desert was vibrant with varying red hues and stretched as far as the eyes could see. There are several pullouts to stop at and take in the magnificent views. This was our last major stop before our final journey home back to Texas.
